Reviving the Light, a Power Rangers RPG is classified by its administration as an intermediate to advanced level Play-by-Post Role Play Game board. As a game we all know there has to be rules. Here you find yourself gazing upon our General Board Rules. Read Them, Love Them, Live Them…
Rule 1) Read The Rules – Yup, simple enough but often times a step that is ignored by players who have other board experience. Rules are often the same across boards in many areas and so it’s understandable to want to just skip to the good stuff. We want all players however to read through these AT LEAST ONCE! Some boards place hidden words in their rules to be sure you read them. Some boards will quiz you on the rules. We will do neither. You are expected to know and understand what is written here before you apply for your character and start playing. Ignorance of the rules is not an acceptable defence for breaking them. If it becomes clear that you have not read the rules your characters will not be accepted and you will not be allowed to proceed to play. If you have been accepted already and rules are ignored or broken we will assume you have read and understand the rules and appropriate reprimand for breaking rules as listed HERE will be taken.
Rule 2) Canon – Reviving the Light is a Canon based Power Rangers RP. What this means is that though the setting occurs 1000 years in the future the powers of the Rangers, Zords, the Villains and other ‘guiding’ characters like Alpha and Demitria are what exists. This said we are not so strict as to never consider an idea. If there is a new ability, a new weapon or something like this that you would like to pitch BEFORE making a character then we are totally willing to listen and discuss. If it falls within the realm of possible and does not bend canon too far or outright break it then it will be considered and maybe even green light.
Rule 3) Adhere to PG-13 Rating – Proboards free forum board service Terms of Service allows only content of a PG-13 nature. Though most people who RP on sites like these are between their late teens and up we strive to stay within the confines of the TOS and so we ask players to keep things PG-13 in game. Now you may ask what is PG-13? If you are unsure the answer to this basically is anything you would see in a PG-13 movie. This generally means anything that might be unsuitable for people under the age of 13 is NOT allowed. This is not to say that mature content is completely out of the question. In terms of violence as long as one does not depict it in the most grizzly and gory of manners it is clearly allowed considering the nature and themes of the fandom. At this time (as of 18/09/19) Mature Content of a Sexual nature must be relegated to the Private Messaging system however in the future other alternatives may be explored. Other content of a mature nature such as drug abuse and other addictions, LGBTQ related subjects, politics etc. will be judged on a case by case basis. If you are completely unsure then feel free to ask the Admins for examples.
Rule 4) The Golden Rule - The famous ‘Golden Rule’ applies to this site: Do Unto Others as You Would Have Them Do Unto You’ in other words treat people as you yourself would like to be treated. Be friendly to each other. Be accepting and inviting to each other for this is a community game and we wish everyone to have a good time here. Bad behavior such as fighting, arguing, insults, backbiting and the like will not be tolerated. Be friendly and polite. This is a roleplaying forum. We are all here to have fun, get away from the stress of real life. Please do not bring your real life issues to the forum for the same reason. If you aren't having a good day, don't take it out on other members. We are sorry if you are having a bad day; but this forum isn't the suitable place to bring it up. We believe this is only common sense.
This all said we understand that people have emotions and don’t always get along, people will argue, people will disagree, people will sometimes come to a point where such conflicts seem almost impossible to solve. When there is conflict between players we as that you follow the following steps to try and resolve it.
1. Reach out to the person or persons you have an dispute or disagreement with privately and respectfully. Try to talk things out, find ways to work around a problem be it personal or in game.
2. If after trying to work things out privately you cannot come to an agreement please feel free to invite an Admin to arbitrate by allowing both sides to speak their peace one on one and then in a group discuss the issue to try and find an amiable resolution.
3. When all else fails then Admin staff will discuss the issue as a group and arrive on a decision they feel is to resolve the situation. The Admin Staff’s decision at step 3 will be final ad binding to both parties. Please do not circumvent the first or second steps of this process.
Rule 5) Word Cap - All play boards have a minimum word cap of 250. This isn’t a great deal and we do hope you will post far more. We like detail, we like intensity, we like posts that will make us reflect, make us feel, make us think. We don’t ask for the world but we would like to see posts from characters that not only describe what they are saying but what they are thinking, feeling, seeing. The world is more than just what a character says and does… its everything around them. I am just going to say this now to prevent future complications and major problems, but if you join this site, we expect you to post your heart out. Do not join just to advertise your site. The advertisement board is guest friendly for a reason. Do not join if you don't plan on being active.
Posting Time – In one on one threads, or threads that are not heavily plot based its ok to take your time within reason. Life is out there… live it and enjoy… That said we also would like to ask you to keep in mind that this site as with any RP site runs by its players. If you post and have to wait forever for a reply its no fun. We would ask players to be considerate in their post timing. We expect you to post at the very least once a week with your approved characters. We feel that this is only fair and does not put any real undue pressure on a player as it goes with the above mentioned less intense posting situations anything beyond that though is unfair to the other player. On the other hand when posts are part of bigger over all plots and there are multiple players involved we ask that you post within a day if at all possible to keep the flow of said important threads moving. If too much time goes by and too many people are waiting for a post Admin have and may enforce their right to skip players if need be and possible.
Rule 6) You are Not A God! - Staying fair in game is a general courtesy. We are here to have fun and it is not fun when someone tries to take liberties, to get their way all the time, to push things solely in their direction or outright cheats. This applies most especially, but not exclusively, to combat situations between your character and others. As a general rule of thumb, never take control or incapacitate/kill somebody's character without their permission. We have a zero tolerance policy on this. Also be sure to communicate to your roleplay partners. Make sure everyone knows what's going on to avoid any sort of confusion down the line. Whether this is through OOC notes, Instant Messenger, Emails, PMs, or otherwise. Additionally keep in mind that your OOC knowledge is considered all-knowing in relation to the characters and stories that we write. Using this information to your character's advantage is considered unacceptable and will not be tollerated.
Rule 7) Plagiarism - Although it shouldn't have to be said, we will spell it out just in case: Plagiarism is NOT permitted concerning posts. If you are caught plagiarizing someone else's work, you will be PMed concerning the offence and you will be given the option of a public apology to the members of the forum or a permanent ban. If a second offense occurs the player in question will receive no such deal and no warning will be given. You will merely be banned.
Rule 8) Activity - As stated before the Administration of Reviving the Light realizes that we all have lives outside of the internet. Sometime events in real life make it hard if not impossible to keep up with posts and even come to a point where you need time away. We understand this. We have it happen to us to. The site is just a game and playing here is not mandatory and not the most important thing going on in your life (or at least it should not be). That said we like to know when people are taking time away from playing so that if there are active threads or they are involved with stories we can figure out work-arounds for such instances. We also don’t want to have people join and then sporadically pop in and expect to get involved in stories and then disappear in the middle without warning. So when it comes to expected absences, things like if you have exams, are going on vacation, need to buckle down for some assignments or work or even had family things going on we ask players to let us know. Reviving The Light has an Absence Template that we ask players to fill out if they know they will be away for a while. When it comes to the reasons for an absence we do not require you to go into great detail, especially if it’s a personal matter. We only want a general idea of why you are taking time away. Real life issues, personal problems, vacation, school, etc are good reasons. But claims as not having any muse for characters or being busy with other forums are not considered as a good enough excuse. If your absence will take more than a month, it's better you to drop some or all of your characters. Once you return from your break, you can feel free to re-take your characters again if they are still available.
As of 18/09/19 Reviving the Light will start to have Bi-Monthly Activity Checks which means every second month (counting September as Month 1) staff will check to see if players are keeping a steady pace. We do not expect posts every day but would like to see 1 post every 2 weeks minimum. During the Activity Check we will be checking each member’s active character’s most recent posts to see that at least two posts a month have made. Members who have posted a Leave of Absence will be excluded from The Activity Check for the period of time the LOA has indicated or if no exact time is indicated the exemption will be for the two month period the LOA was posted within.
If the post count isn’t made by a member we will message said member via PM or Discord to discuss this. If the reasons for not making the AC are reasonable then no action will be taken however if the reasons are not reasonable or non-existent then a strike will be issued. The first strike will be merely a notice to get the player back on track, the second strike will be warning in which the character will be put on a list of in jeopardy but the player will be given a chance and specific time frame to catch up on posts and have the character saved, the third strike will mean the loss of the character entirely.
Rule 9) Population Cap- Reviving the Light has a character cap of 5 per player. Players may apply for 2 characters from the get go- 1 Ranger& 1 Monster. That said for any player who applies multiple characters they will be expected to keep up with these characters, to post regularly as all of them. If staff notices that players are making multiple characters but not keeping them all active they will be first reminded of this rule and warned to keep all your characters active. If this notification is not heeded then the player will be asked to cut back on their characters, opening up rangers/monsters/civilians for others who will be active with them.
Bonus Characters – The creation of civilian characters, those who are not rangers but feature heavily in the rangers lives, some knowing their secret others not, will be considered a bonus character and will not go towards a players character count. IE. If a player has 2 rangers/monsters and makes a civilian then that player can still make 3 more ranger/monster characters. Civilian characters are still subject to the rule of keeping your characters active but because they do not feature as heavily they are not scrutinized to the same level thus there is more leniency for lack of play if the opportunities are not always present. Civilian characters will also not count towards the Activity Check.
Rule 10) Face Claim restrictions-Like most roleplay sites, we primarily use well known faces of famous actors or actresses for our characters! The reason we do not allow faces such as say internet models or gaming let's players is because there is no way for staff to know the kind of content that person produces and if having that face would be either illegal or extremely controversial. So faces like Logan and Jake Paul for example are forbidden. If a mainstream celebrity becomes involved with such controversies (for example Allison Mack of "Smallville" fame) then they will be forbidden as well. If you have questions then feel free to DM or PM the staff. If needed we will create a banned Face Claim list for reference.
