Powers: Shapeshifting (only to roughly human size, mostly used only to change appearance for defensive reasons). Can see in infrared. This ability can trigger when under duress, Hraskvnis changing so that she resembles a member of the species of the being who has placed her under duress.
Her species have a natural talent for spoken languages. Given a chance to listen for a short time she can gain a level of understanding.
The Kharma-Hil are weakened by cold temperatures (her homeworld is close to the local sun and her body feeds on ultraviolet radiation) and high-pitched noises (which disrupts her control over her appearance).
Personality: Hraskvnis is a product of her upbringing. Her species has been a slave race for centuries and she has never known freedom. Most owners treat her people as entertainment or other, worse things. She has wished to be free almost from birth and the idea of gaining her freedom is something she is willing to die for.
Hraskvnis has an innate sense of curiosity (something which has landed her in trouble on more than one occasion) and has used the fact that she is normally underestimated by her owners to learn things that slaves should never be able to discover. She has known on some level that if she was ever to escape she would need to learn things that her owners wouldn't want her to know. Her upbringing has made it difficult for her to trust other people who are not fellow slaves as most other people have wanted to use her for one reason or another.
History: Hraskvnis was born on a planet in the M51 galaxy where the dominant species evolved shapeshifting abilities as a defensive measure against stronger predator species. The planet was conquered by forces loyal to Master Vile over a millennium before Hraskvnis was born and she was born into slavery on another planet in that evil dominated galaxy. She was separated from her parents almost as soon as she hatched and sold to a gunrunner as a pet for his daughter.
She was treated as little more than an animal for the first few years of her life, learning quickly to pretend that she was less intelligent than she was while gaining skills that her owners didn't know about, most usefully how to use computers and a degree of hand-to-hand combat skills (her owner was being trained to take over from her father and Hraskvnis learned by watching, keeping her efforts at learning those moves as secret as possible).
Afterward, she was sold or traded to a number of other owners for use as a servant or translator (picking up other skills, such as using computers and certain diplomatic skills, as she went since most of her owners thought of her as little more than a pet). When she attacked and wounded one of her owner's underlings as he made unwelcome advances upon her, her owner decided that Tamara was getting to be more trouble than she was worth.
Knowing that a member of her species was worth a lot of money, it was decided she would be sold at an auction so that she would be someone else's problem.
Hraskvnis was transported to another planet for the auction, unsure of what was going to happen to her but guessing that she would probably never be free.
