Powers: Martial arts has been something that Vera has put a fairly large amount of time into over the years that she has been alive for. Pairing this with the teachings of the Pai Zua, she can summon her spirit animal; the Bobcat. Due to her connection with the Bobcat, the spirit has enhanced some of her personal abilities to a higher level. Her eyesight has been tuned up, allowing her to pick out the weaknesses of her opponent. This combined with a boost to her leg strength which allows her to leap and move at higher speeds, combines to permit Vera to pick out a weak point and leap at it with precision.
On the less exciting end of things that Vera is capable of, she is very experienced in playing the guitar. She was taught from a very young age by her father and it has been something that she has stuck to playing on the daily to ensure that her skills don’t wane.
Personality: When it comes to interacting with others, Vera tends to be a little hit or miss. At times she likes to socialize and interact with others, enjoying conversations and going out. On the other hand she does like having time to herself to reflect and focus on herself. Part of this focusing on herself leads to her tendency to not ask others for help with the problems that she is facing, preferring to go it alone and figure it out all by herself.
Another bad habit that Vera has a tendency of is what she has been reminded is that she tends to be a bit of a slacker, not wanting to put more effort than is needed when it comes to most things. This extends to training as well as in her personal life, not wanting to over exert herself if the task isn’t needing it. However, this has allowed her to become a good gauge of how much effort she needs to put into a task as well as her own personal standing in terms of how strong she is. And while she isn’t the biggest fan of training with others, she does use her personal time to practice her skills.
Vera however, won’t share this information with others. She likes to keep how strong she is to herself, not wanting to show off or boast about what she can do. Not one to rush into a fight in a normal mindset, Vera is an opportunist and will watch for something that she can exploit before striking. However, if she gets frustrated or thrown off her game, Vera tends to get more reckless and can be goaded into making mistakes when she loses her focus.
In the end Vera’s biggest weakness is her own mindset, one where she tends to hold back and not want to put in heavy work unless the situation calls for it. And at times that can be a realization that comes too late.
As for personal stuff, Vera is a supporter of rights for animals. She is a level of supporter she has adopted it into her lifestyle, changing her diet to a vegan one to prevent as much animal abuse as she can. On occasion she can be found at protests, and can get somewhat argumentative when it comes to others consuming meat and animal products.
History: There were two things that were constant for Vera’s life when she was a child, music and martial arts. Her father, Afon Kotov, was a musician, playing in a band that travelled around nearby cities and played in bars and clubs. While her mother, Katia Kotov, a teacher at a local martial arts school and former student of the Pai Zua school. So from a young age she was exposed to both of these, her father pushing her to play an instrument, which he eventually helped her decide was the guitar.
Meanwhile her mother pushed Vera as hard as she could from a young age in an attempt to get her to take after her and go to the Pai Zua school as well, only better than what she had done. It was a constant push and pull between both her parents over which got time to practice their chosen activity. This caused a bit of friction between the two parents, as well as friction between Vera and both her parents. She did enjoy each activity but being forced into doing them was something that never sat right with her.
However, in the end Katia ended up winning out in the fight, but lost her husband as he didn’t like the idea of forcing Vera into something that she hadn’t chosen. In addition his band had started to pick up in popularity and he started travelling more and more. Free from the distraction of having to argue, Katia’s training went into double time, with Katia training her in all the free time that she had, as well as making her come to the dojo with her. And, after a few years, Katia’s hope came true when a master approached her family to explain something that Katia knew very well. Without hesitation she agreed and sent her daughter off to the school, hoping that her daughter could do what she hadn’t been able to.
And that was Vera’s life for the next few years, constant training and learning, while her free time was spent in a mix between practicing her guitar and training on her own out of the sight of others. And to most it seemed like Vera wasn’t taking her time there seriously, with her seeming to not take her training seriously. This came from her apparent slacking and lack of massive improvements. In sparring she could beat most people that she would go up against, but, it was never a crushing win.
And in terms of her training, that was where Master Lynx had the largest hand to play. While Vera came with a lot of knowledge given to her by her mother, there was still much to teach her; and while to the other students it never looked like Vera was trying all that hard, Lynx did take note that her student had a particular aptitude in the training. And seeking to nurture this spark that she saw inside her, Lynx pushed her to try and get as much from the young woman as possible and at times Vera let it shine.
Soon enough it was becoming noticed with the others as well, and before long her aptitude was rewarded with Vera being chosen as the next in line to possess the bobcat spirit. From there she was given an opportunity to join the Power Rangers of Ocean Bluff, becoming a student of one of the masters who were on the team. Making her way to the Pizzaria, Vera got herself ready for her new life with the rangers, knowing that she impressed her mother, and that she was bound for great things.
